Some of the similarities between these four races are that both the Native American and the Asian seek help from within their cultures. When it comes to the caring of each of these cultures, they all seem to care for elders within their cultures. The Asian’s have good health in general, whereas the African American have more health issues. The Hispanic groups have a greater rate of diabetes compared to African American people. The Asian culture compared to the African Americans or Hispanics have a poverty rate that is closer to the rate of whites.

Rowe and Kahn’s Model of Successful Aging They define successful aging as having three main components, which include low probability of disease and disease related disability, active engagement with life and high cognitive and physical functional capacity (Rowe & Kahn, 1997). They state that all three are relative when it comes to a successful aging. The onset of physical decline or disability means that the person has aged unsuccessfully according to Rowe and Kahn’s model.

A Life Course Model of Successful Aging Elder people wanting to come into their 60’s feeling and looking like they are in their 40s can describe the Life Course Model. In order for them to be able to do this there are three things that they would need as stated in our text written by Mark Novak (year), the first is to preserve their health, the second is to do as little damage to their bodies and the third is to strengthen what they can strengthen (pg. 114).
