Their are so many preventable events that happen in healthcare settings , if we want better quality and care for our patients we must explore our knowledge open up our minds to different patients of different cultures. For example Brooklyn, New York has a large population of people of Haitian descent;If hospitals can not communicate with the Haitian population more medical errors will occur. It is a hospital 's responsibility to ensure their doctors can communicate with their patients. Patients need to be able to communicate about their past medical history, and their allergens. It is essential for an adequate treatment and good health outcomes. The future of medicine is in our hands whether it 's a Haitian patient or a patient of a different ethnic origin. We need to make sure a make sure patients do not receive the overtreatment or undertreatment, possibly death. The number of non English speaking patients is not likely to decrease anytime soon. If we do not take steps to improve the way we communicate, we are likely to continue to make mistakes.
