One of the biggest problems I hear of for people's food situation is most often the cost associated with cooking semi fresh food. So they turn to frozen alternatives, which are convenient and have their place, but are unhealthy and often more expensive. Now this is all some people can do, as they only have access to a microwave and a refrigerator. But others, with the ability to cook on a stove or have other appliances still can't be bothered to cook.
