To be a great counselor the process must be calming and welcoming to your clients. A counselor must be a good listener. You must be sensitive to their beliefs and empathetic to their struggles. This type of listening is so important, “Empathic listening and developing relationships with our clients are the most basic aspects of counseling and psychotherapy” (Ivey, Ivey, & Zalaquett, 2014, p.1). I will not push my beliefs, but I will pray for them. I will firstly tell them that I am a Christian counselor and they will have the choice if they would like me to use this in our sessions or not. I believe that it will be a balance as far as my clients having different beliefs. I would be trying to build a trust and if I say something in a judgmental, way that might put a wedge between us rather than bringing us together. I believe attending classes such as at Colorado Christian University, helps me develop in my integration, “they found that the institutional environment played an important additional role in facilitating integration. Environmental factors such as university-based and classroom spiritual formation and religious practices were significant in predicting the importance of integration to students” (Garzon, F., & Hall, M.L., 2012. P.156). I hope that I will be able to learn more ways to integrate my Christian beliefs into my counseling that is why it was so important for me to go to a Christian
