In the movie Halloween, there is a woman that is being chased by a serial killer and the woman tries to protect her children by living them in a safe place. Then she goes out to confront the killer and at the same time escaping her death. The killer finds the women and is ready to kill her, but the women gains strength and defends herself from the evil murderer. Although this seen crosses lines with feminist criticism, the film falls into the category of new criticism because of the quality and engaging theme. According to the Norton Introduction to Literature, "new criticism presumes that a good literary work symbolically embodies universe human themes and may be interpreted objectively on many levels" (Mays 1974). Halloween meets the standards of a whole and coherent work that leaves the audience thinking and engage. In the Siskel and Ebert Halloween review, one of the narrators says, "... When I saw that seen I must admit I wasn't really worried about the women much as I was placing myself in that closet and thinking about that killer how I would of handle it... The audience is in fact having empathy towards the victim by putting themselves in the place of the victim. Halloween 1978 shows a literary work based in direction, quality, and performance. The actors and directors worked well together to achieve a valuable literature work. The movie 300 was based in sexual orientation and mystery on whether the writers of the movie where gay or lesbian. Lastly, the movie frozen was meant to show the audience that women are self-sufficient and can be independent. Regardless of their critical approach, the three films are excellent valuable works of art and writing.
