During that time period Daisy married Tom but Gatsby came back and wanted her back. He had used Nick to achieve this because Nick was cousins with Daisy and Gatsby uses this to his advantage. He tells Nick about the history and how he throws big parties every Saturday at his house. They were neighbors so he had invited Nick and Daisy to one of these extravagant parties.
