Parents and caregivers of children with ASD often find that trying to reduce these behaviors can be problematic and exasperating. In order to deal with these issues one can implement applied behavior analysis, or ABA, training. Applied behavior analysis comes from the idea that children are more likely to repeat positive behaviors that are rewarded than negative behaviors that ignored or not recognized. An assessment with the child initiates the treatment. The assessment is usually completed by a therapist. The assessment is used to specify which skills the child already has and where the child has deficits. During the assessment the therapist will also develop a treatment planned that will be specifically aimed at increasing the child’s skills in several areas. This theory is constructed on the belief that you can modify the brain by modifying experience. When a person has poor sensory integration which then effects their capability to function and learn you can provide sensory experiences that will improve not only sensory integration itself, but the persons functioning overall.
Ayadhi, concluded in a study in 2013 that the better autistic children understand auditory information, the better they can comprehend their environment, both socially and academically. The better we understand the autistic child, the better we can develop ways to intervene in an effective manner. After conducting a study on auditory integration therapy it was found that individuals with autism that have completed the therapy, displayed improved behavior of individuals with autism.
