Quote:
“The wind blew up and down, and into small mounds of snow. Her half-grown daughters scrambled about trying to catch them, while their mother moaned and hold the underside of her stomach. The rose-petal scrambled got a lot of attention, but the pregnant lady’s moans did not”(5)
The lady is giving birth to her child outside the hospital. The extensive imagery of this scene gives it so much color and detail, which is what caught my attention. The way it was described made me picture the scene in my head. The lady could not give birth to her child inside the hospital because she was black. That lady was Ruth and she was giving birth to Milkman. It is a pretty scene with the rose petals but it seeing a lady give birth was probably …show more content…
The detailed description of Pilate’s house make it seem very interesting and beautiful. The way it was described make it sound like a dream and nothing like reality.
Question:
Since Pilate was Milkman’s son, why didn't Milkman ever seen Pilate in his life until he was 12 years old? Milkman’s dad, Macon, didn't really have a good or close relationship with his sister so he didn't communicate with Pilate nor he allowed Milkman to communicate with her as much.

He uses strong word choice that will be effective and those that will convince Milkman to no go to Alabama.
Question:
Why would Milkman offer cash to somebody who was once his lover, instead of a nice gift? Thats really disrespectful of him in my opinion. As we proceed through the book, we learn about characteristics of Milkman. One thing that I realized throughout the story, was Milkman in general used girls and women as toys. After he got what from Hagar he broke her heart in the worst way possible. That’s just one of his qualities as a man.
