They were very diverse in terms of people. The Middle Colonies were home to the German, Dutch, British, Irish and Swedish. The warm temperatures and longer growing seasons made the Middle Colonies a good place to settle. Farming was dominant over fishing or hunting. Some of the crops grown are grain based and that’s why they’re called the bread basket colonies. As in the northern colonies it was colder, these types of crops wouldn’t grow well. The two biggest economical money sources in the Middle Colonies were farming and industry but majorly industry, just like the New England colonies. Shipbuilding and textile manufacturing were some of the main productions in the industry business. Because the middle colonies had a high level of vegetation, lumber was not scarce. Shipbuilding was a business that made a lot of money at the time. The three main differences affected the three regions mostly in an economic sense because it affected the industrial and agricultural business. Religion wise, there were only a few colonies in the Middle colonies region that supported religious freedom. Slaves were used in most colonies, but there were as much slaves in the South as in the Middle and New England colonies so it’s possible to conclude that the Southern colonies supported the most the idea of slavery.
