The serpent ritual uses dance, using virgins as a form to reach the gods. Dance is not only included but by using art, and food as well helps this particular culture keep next to God. They use dance to purify body and spirit and set a tall table for the Gods also offering food. Making this large table can be done is someone’s home. In view of this video you see all ages, men and women come together to create a wonderful masterpiece. Taking hours to create but once God is detected within the two virgins it is ruined, by movement. All the beautiful decorations for the Gods though taken down during this ritual mean so much to the villagers. In knowing that they reached the spirits and they may return to the forest. Hearing bells, singing, being able to see the old teaching of the young is invigorating. With an outsider looking in one can think that this could be theater. To the rituals and sacred scripts we can see these amazing traditions given for everyone to view. Dance is for everyone to join in and just because certain rituals may dress differently they incorporate each other in their families and to those around. In any case dance is used for communication throughout our world new or old. Young and old can come together to show their devotion to Gods by offerings as well. Surely if hate and politics tear people apart we can come together over food. No matter what religion or what you believe in you have access to tap into your faith through movement. Looking back to your own family history you have your personal experiences with dance. These experiences can take our bodies through space and affect our day to day living.
