Another form of abuse is sexual abuse which is common among disabled women. Lastly neglect is a form of abuse that keep disabled person from getting there needs meet. Abuse on disabled persons is a cruel act that needs to recognize. Disabled persons are abused and cannot do much to defend themselves. Persons with disabilities receive protection to make sure they are being treated fairly. “The bc adult Guardianship Act requires that designated agencies that receive reports of abuse or neglect must look into these reports and give those agencies practical tools for intervention in extreme circumstances”(Legal Justice). With reports not being ignored it gives the disabled persons a chance to find justice without being put in danger. “If a witness has difficulty communicating because of physical or medical disabilities, the witness may be able to give evidence by any means that allows evidence to be understood”(Public Legal). According to the NCPEA “Neglect refers to behavior that is willful - that is, the caregiver intentionally withholds care or necessities. The neglect may be motivated by financial gain or reflect interpersonal conflicts”(Navigation). This means the perpetrators of the neglect are doing it to potentially make money by not providing the patient with the correct needs. “Perpetrators may be paid attendants, family members, employees of long term care facilities, or other. The people neglecting disabled persons may vary from hired caregivers who have no relation to you too a family member that you are close too. “Indicators of neglect include the condition of the older person’s home, physical signs of poor care, and behavioral characteristics of the caregiver and/or older person”(Navigation). This is saying that you can tell when a disabled person is being neglected either by their appearance and/or the behavior around the person who is supposed to be taking care of them.
