As a physical educator itmay seem difficult or even impossible to bring diversity into the classroom. Our greatest challenge is getting students up and moving and living healthier lives, however that challenge sometimes become more difficult when students have certain disabilities that restrict them from doing it on their own. The Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) is a law ensuring services to children with disabilities throughout the nation. This law makes sure that students with special needs are included in with the general population of the school. All students with disabilities are required to participate in physical education instruction, and this can bring diversity into the classroom.Participation in physical education is an important component of a well rounded educational experience and as an educator you are taught to adapt to the students need and give them an environment that is conducive for learning. By introducing my students to activities from other ethnicities and accommodating the disable students will give my classroom a more diverse atmosphere. As educators we have to start thinking outside the box, so our students will. It’s time that we challenge ourselves and push them into becoming well rounded individuals.
