Auguste Mas, the great-grandfather of Jean-Claude Mas (the current owner), bought in 1892 his first vineyards with the acquisition of 9 hectares of vines in the Mas de Bicq, close to Montagnac. His son Raymond bought in 1934 15 hectares to the Domaine Montredon, still in Montagnac and with the will to expand the vineyard. And in 1954 the following generation Paul and Maxime Mas bought 120 hectares of vines to increase even more the property. As it is written in the website: “Paul Mas wines are the result of a harmonious symbiosis between an extraordinary region capable of producing fantastic fruits, a passion for the vineyards, a true respect for the grapes during vinification and the talent of blending and ageing wines.” In this sentence we can feel the philosophy of the company which is the respect of the region and the vineyards. They present the specificities of each domains, the appellations used and the characteristics of each wines as well. Moreover, we can see pictures of all the domains and something interesting is they have created a video of 15 minutes which present the entire property of Paul Mas and the difference between each domains. The website oneself contains many pictures of the vineyards, the vinifying cellar and they really promote their restaurant with many pictures of their gastronomic plates.
After the presentation of the company and its website, how it is built and what is interesting about it, I’m going to give my personal opinion about Paul Mas, and if I would choose this website as a customer as well.
Personally, I don’t think I would choose this website as a customer for a few reasons. Firstly, I’m not really a Paul Mas’s lover. I have tasted 2 months ago a PGI Pays d’Oc Gewürztraminer by Paul Mas and I was quite disappointed, I really disliked it, and now I have some doubts about the quality of their wines. The wine was acid and didn’t reveal the typical aromas of the Gewürztraminer variety, the wine looked to not have high complexity and length, so this is a reason which explains my doubts about the company of Paul
