In commencement, the new dress code was far too expensive for many families in my school district. Most students opposed the dress code because they had grown up wearing the aforementioned clothing types and were required to replace most of their everyday wear with a completely new wardrobe. The reasoning behind the change to the dress code in the first place was to prevent students wearing revealing or inappropriate outfits at school. This confused many students as to how appropriate graphics on clothing or sandals could be seen as revealing or inappropriate. Students were being suspended from school just because their shirts featured words on them. I believe that this was a highly unscrupulous practice since the students that were being pulled from their classes were typically the ones who could not afford new clothes. Something about seeing intelligent students with a strong desire to learn who were unable to because their families couldn’t afford new and expensive clothing always struck a chord with
