In a developing world, cultural political and social changes are inevitable which mainly contribute to discrimination. This paper focusses on the various types of discrimination, their effects on the society, the current situation and some of the mitigation techniques to this menace.
Racism is one of the most dominant forms of discrimination which is the belief that a specific culture or race is inherently superior to others. This perception of one race exerting superiority over another creates the foundation for discrimination whether individual or institutionalized. Historically, since the mid-20th century (Lauren, 2018), there have been numerous efforts to cleanse legal, social and political facets of racism but it is still existent behind the society’s fabric. These historical differences in religion contribute to this form of discrimination. World peace lingers on a thin line due to religion. It has already endangered world peace especially in acts of terrorism. Different religions have a large number of believers, and they differ in various aspects. Religious discrimination can cause unending conflict (Fox, 2016). Discrimination in this context involves subordination and exclusion leading to humiliation. Most religions such as Judaism and Christianity are based on the teachings of reciprocity and tolerance (Fox, 2016). But some faiths have assigned some ethic to their religion which only applies to their believers hence casting out non-believers. The Islamic State better known as ISIS have discriminated against other religions in their lands, forcing them to convert, executing them, displacing them from their homes, extreme violent acts against even their own Islam society (Fox, 2016). They claim that their religion is the only ‘pure’ religion and have threatened to wage war to anyone who does not adhere to their beliefs. They act contrary to their religion’s doctrines.
