Global warming does affect overall health of humans. The carbon dioxide level in the atmosphere has risen about 30% since the 1700’s. CFCs are also more prevalent than previously assumed (Global Environmental Change”). Greenhouse gases are depleting the different layers of the atmosphere and that puts humans at more risk of getting too much direct UVA and UVB rays of sunlight which lead to different types of skin cancer (Jaworowski). While the UVA and UVB rays of sunlight continue to penetrate the ozone layer of the Earth, studies have shown that the amount of sunlight decreases at a rate of three percent every year and it is steadily becoming a darker planet (Kyoto Protocol). This is a problem because sunlight provides humans with Vitamin D which is essential for the body and without sunlight humans will be forced to find alternatives. Also, global warming can possibly lead to a mass extinction of animals and plants, a series of mass migrations, and other social and environmental facts that, in no way, will be beneficial to the human race. Scientists say that environmentalists simply make dramatic statements to scare everybody, but statistics speak a million words and prove that global warming is a problem (Jaworowski). The ozone layer being depleted by the burning of greenhouse gases just proves that this disaster is going to directly affect the health of …show more content…
Global warming greatly affects the weather, which in turn takes its toll on the landmasses. The weather becomes much more severe and natural disasters become more powerful. Global warming has caused many hurricanes, such as Hurricane Katrina and Hurricane Rita, to affect the overall layout of lands. Erosion and flooding are becoming more common (“Global Warming and the Environment). Many environmentalists use Hurricane Mitch as an example of what could be in store for the planet in the future. The hurricane, which occurred in 1998, dumped between three and six feet of rain within forty eight hours (Sarewitz). Along with flooding and erosion, droughts and heat waves have become more common (“Kyoto Protocol”). There have been many variations in the seasonal climates, such as El Nino and La Nina, which affects the economical, agricultural, and other daily aspects of daily life (“Global Environmental
