The articles were obtained from the Brandman University 's academic journal database the results were as followed: The article Functional Behavioral Assessment (FBA): An Emerging Component of Best School Practices for ADHD (Olympia, Larson, & Goldstien, 2005). Discussed what FBA is: an assessment strategy that focuses on identifying situational and environmental conditions that are usually associated with problem behaviors (Olympia, et. al., 2005). There is a current discussion between researchers and clinicians, on whether or not there is enough evidence to adopt FBA in the school setting for both general and special education. FBA has been added in some specific situations under IDEA-97 and has been retained in the revised version IDEIA-2004. IDEIA-2004 regulates how services for students with disabilities are provided. Since students with ADHD are among the highest referred for services and spend the majority of their time in general education classrooms, this causes a problem when it comes to implementing a systematic intervention in a regular environment, throughout the day, in a general education environment. Conditions routinely change for several different reasons, frequent changes in routine are an issue with ADHD students and systematic intervention plans (Olympia, et. al., …show more content…
al., 2012). FBA can serve as a preventative and evidence-based approach to behavior problems in all three scopes of RTI framework. FBA provides reliable data that can help develop a behavior intervention for problems in a broad scope, such as a school-wide problem with disrespectful behavior. Data is gathered through existing information such as office dis-cipline referrals (ODRs) (Alvarez, et. al., 2012). FBA helps identify the environmental conditions that predict and maintain problem behaviors, that information is then used to develop an effective and efficient behavior
