The term endocrine disruptor was created at the wingspread conference center in Wisconsin in 1991. Several articles had a key impact on such a creation. One paper in 1993 by Theo Colborn. Through this paper she stated that the “environmental chemicals distribute the development of the endocrine system, and the effects of the exposure during the development are often permanent”. Colborn T, vom Saal FS, Soto AM (October 1993). "Developmental effects of endocrine-disrupting chemicals in wildlife and humans". Environ. Health Perspect. 101 (5): 378–84. …show more content…
How ever high levels of endocrine distriputers are able to effect and impare the human body and health through interfering with the human reproductive system. Examples include decline in number of males born, abnormal male reproduction organs, female productive disease, early puberty and reduction in male fertility. Specific endocrine distrputors have affected the wild life reproduction. While only a few endocrine disptrodurs disappear quickly from the natural environment others are more persistent and these have been the most studied. Aquatic animals have a higher percentage of being effected. Such animals include reduction in population of species such as seals birds of prey and …show more content…
These methods include safe testing, right to know, detecting exposure, reducing exposure and a better education on the endocrine distrputors. The national centre of environmental health at the centers for disease control prevention has developted methods which allow amounts of human exposure and suspected endocrine distriputing chemicals. Some known endocrine distputors are still legally used in the United states. For example a pesticide called vinclozoline is legally used on beans and other food crops even though it is knwon to block the normal function of male hormones such as testosterone Camille A.
