Addiction is seen as a “disease”, and it has emphasized that it has different elements. Peele (1996) suggests that they are two distinction elements to the addiction construction. Susceptibility - Exposure. The Susceptibility elements says that genetic factors play a major role in substance dependence. The Exposure elements says that the actions of chemicals are causes of addiction which asserts that addiction is a brain disease.The extent to which a person is at-risk for that disease is determined by how much the brain is exposed to drugs which can be abused.These elements can affect their learning, control,motivation and memory making it harder to control their behavior. This can carry a great deal of negative influences across populations, which can also be affected by environmental factors : stress,poor economic conditions as well as drug using affiliations.Research has shown that genetic traits influence susceptibility to nicotine dependence.
