It is a portrait painting. The subject is a single women who wears a black skirt. She slowly stand up from a chair. She wears a string of beads on her both hands. She touches the chair with her left hand of which she has a gold ring on the little finger. She also holds a golden watch on her right hand. It depicts a standing man who turns his head slightly to the left looking at viewers. He crosses his hand and holds a musical instrument similar to the trumpet on his right hand. He wears a big brown robe which covers his whole body. He has curly hair and thick beard. Promayet is a violinist and he was childhood friend of Courbet.
