Inuit are a people that live in the frozen artic and sub artic lands of north America, like Canada and Alaska they even live in other parts of the world like Siberia and Greenland. They are one of the hundreds of tribes that live in North America today. Between the United States and Canada there are over a thousand tribes that call these lands home. Throughout history the Native American all across the continent of North America developed and adapted their ways of life to survive the climates they were in. Some made fishing villages while others grew crops, the desert dwellers made massive irrigation systems to grow crops.
The Inuit people lived an interesting life in the frozen north. “They built their homes of stone and driftwood or of blocks of ice. For food they hunted herds of caribou or sea mammals such as whales and seals. The skins of these animals were used to make clothes, summer tents, and tools. Their lifestyle was nomadic, as they followed the herds during their annual migrations” (Burgan 6).

Because the governments controlled and claimed these lands they began to influence the Inuit people they promoted education and assimilation essentially forcing the Inuit’s to accept their culture. The Inuit’s used to be mainly nomadic tribes following the migration pattern of their food and lively hoods but do to the influence of the governments they began erecting permanent communities in places that were once just summer hunting grounds. In the 1960-70’s they had permanent structures with indoor plumbing and electricity.
