The Iroquois had made a confederacy with different tribes that went through a lot. From what I’ve heard from stories they’ve split into different sides multiple times. Actually before I start telling you anything about when they’ve split I guess a good place to start is when it the confederacy was formed in the late 1400’s. It was made up of Mohawk, Seneca, Oneida, Onondaga, Cayuga, and eventually the Tuscarora but it was just the first five until the 1772. It was called the Longhouse religion where they believed in a creator of everything, and good and bad spirits. Bad spirits that brought bad luck and sickness had to be scared away by Medicine Mask societies that wore masks of living basswood trees.
The Iroquois grew the three sisters which are corn, bean, and squash along with other fruits and vegetables. They also hunted fish, birds, and other animals they could find.
The types of houses the Iroquois lived in were called longhouses like their religion. They were made by saplings that got bent over and covered in elm bark. Their houses were long enough to house multiple families.
I had said a little about the dancing before hand but I want to go into more detail. Instruments that were special were the drums and flutes. When drums were made they had gotten filled with water and the flutes were used to woo women. That would not work for me it. Like I said earlier for dances they would put feathers in their hair.
