People of color had to go through a lot to receiver their equal rights. However, in 1960, the United Nation deliver Independence for the colonial countries and people, it stated, “all people have the right to self-determination, by virtue of that right they freely determine their political status and freely pursue their economic, social and cultural development (page 113).” There were many court cases on equality dealing with the school system. The most important one is Brown v. Board of Education case. The case was about Brown daughter attend the white school, because it was close to their house. However, people argue that she is black so she belong in the color school. The Board of Education argue that all school was equal, however the color community didn’t agree. This was the starter of the Civil Right Movement. There are many people who contribute to the Civil Right Movement Like; Martin Luther King, Malcolm X, and other. As a person of color, it is very important to know your background of your people, but most important, the struggle that people of color went through for equal rights in the school system. In today’s society, kids of color don’t know how luck they is, they will never understand the struggle that people went through back in the day. They want understand what the point on fight for equal rights in the school system. The point was, to give every child an opportunity to receive the same education, no matter on the color of your skin. However, the most important thing was as a student of color, you can learn about the history of your people in class. I never thought how multicultural education can affect you as a person of color.
