Imperialism is a policy of extending a country’s power and influence through colonization, use of military force, or other means. Imperialism was a crucial part of the histories of many societies in the world. It benefitted some more than others, in this case the European’s. European Imperialism had both negative and positive effects on civilizations, but the negatives out weighted the positives. First example, would be British imperialism in India, and how they turned the native population against each other. Second example is on how slavery change the continent of Africa, and the amount of people affected by it. Europeans believed that this was helping those people, but the truth was they. European nations affected these societies, with the race for supremacy that they had with one another. Well if you think that Europeans affected them, what would the outcome have been if they had no involvement, and would they be at were there at today? One can infer that if there would’ve been even trades between nations all nations would’ve developed at the same rates. As for having the same technologies, people traveled to learn thing well before European Imperialism, and they would have still done so to improve their nations. For example, Australia was solely used as an island for prisoners by the British. Europeans went to these nations to empower, and support their own needs versus that of the native population. All in all, many people didn’t like what the colonizers were doing to their nation, and a huge amount of them fought back to protect themselves but in the end many of them lost their battles against the Europeans. In the case of the people of India, over time under British rule there had been multiple plots to unite against the British, and remove them from India. But many of these attempts had failed because some people were scared of the British, and their technologies. As for the people of Africa, everyone wanted to better their own lives so if it meant that they had to sell others in the process it would have to be done. At the end of the day everyone was concerned with their own problems so no one really cared what happened to them.
