The democratic party has been around for a very long time, so long in fact that it is the oldest political party in the USA and one of the oldest in the world. The origins of this party dates back to 1790 when Thomas Jefferson and James Madison created it to oppose the rise of the Federalist party lead by Alexander Hamilton, who believed strong government control of the elite was necessary to insure a strong state. The Democratic party developed from the Anti-federalists who famously urged the adding of a Bill Of Rights to the Constitution.
