For the past 7 years, I have just floated through life party to party with no goals or ambition to do anything productive. School used to be a joke to me and I didn’t really know the concept of what the word work meant. A horrible event in my life has changed my perspective on things, it has set me on a course of positive actions that lead me to start accomplishing career goals.
It was a blustery fall day, jack-o-lanterns and festive decorations where up for Halloween. I was driving home from a long night of partying and had a few to many beers to be driving. I wasn’t worried as I had made this drive many times in the past. Unfortunately, this night wasn’t like the rest, I was quickly startled by a loud crash and could hear glass shattering and metal twisting. When I realized what happened, my car was wrapped around a telephone pole I could hear the sounds of sirens off in the distance. It didn’t occur to me that they were coming to arrest me.

Even though jail was a bad experience it gave me time to put things into perspective. I now know that I needed to change a lot of things in my life to grow up and I finally come to the realization that just floating through life like it was a big party wasn’t working out to well. Now I have goals in life, I want a master’s degree in acupuncture and oriental medicine. In order to achieve this I need to complete 2 years of prerequisites which is why I am currently enrolled at WCTC as a full time student. I used to weigh 150lbs and people told me I looked underweight, this motivated me to get a gym membership and to start eating healthy, since my release I have gained 35lbs and have never felt better. I now work part time as a dietary aid at the nursing home, having a job has been priceless because it has taught me the value of the
