One of the Executive powers that a governor has is the Appointment Power. This power give the governor the ability to assign others to work alongside of him/her during their term. This can give the governor a great advantage because if they want to, they can assign friends into certain spots in office. In our text book it is defined as “…a degree of control over about 200 states agencies” (Champagne, Harpham 222). This power gives the governor such a great advantage because even though the people he picks have to also be approved by the senate, they do not meet with them right away. Military Power :
Describe: The third Executive Power is Millitary Power. According to our text book, this means that “The governor is commander in Chief of the State’s National Guard units when they are not under presidential orders (Champagne Harpham 223). In other words, the governor can hand pick the general to lead the National Guard’s if anything were to ever happen in their state. This can be very important if a serious situation took place in the state of Texas, and the President was either away or allowed the governor to take over the situation themselves.
