The storyline in 1984 is centered on Winston Smith, who resides in Oceania, additionally, Winston has intentions of rebelling against the government by freeing the citizens from their own ignorance. Throughout his journey in the interworking’s of the government he explores the mindset of society and characterizes the citizens lack of control with the fact that they are unaware of the evils that the government is forcing on to them, “until they become conscious they will never rebel, and until after they have rebelled they cannot become conscious “ (70 ). The situation in Oceania is volatile because the people of the society are unable to think freely and to compare their way of life with others.
