Victims of dehumanization are shown no compassion and face violence and oppression. Conflict causes uneasy relationships and makes it difficult for groups to recognize that they’re part of a human community. This can lead to feelings of hatred and unfriendliness between different groups of people. Also, there may be feelings of anger, fear or distrust, that shape the way that different groups regard one another (Maiese p. 5). The more serious the conflict is, the more the distance between groups will widen, as well (Maiese p. 1). Dehumanization is a personal thing, some people do it and some people don’t. But why? People feel like others are not fully human because they are less than them by having a different skin color or not having a house.
