I felt your description of Existential therapy was easy to understand and detailed. I learned that using this type of therapy works well with those clients in transitional phases of their life. Additionally, I could understand using this therapy with a client or group who are grieving and wondering what their place or meaning is now. Per Gladding (2016) Existential therapy can draw from other techniques but the basis is on helping clients or groups understand their meaning of their presence. One technique a counselor can use is an innocent persona by using silence, which will encourage the client to share their definition of their life (Lin, 2016). Ultimately, it is a client who must come to terms with how they perceive their place in the world. I believe many people have struggled with their life’s meaning and consequences of their actions and behavior. Also, anxiety is a natural response to the unknowns that life holds. Thus, the essence of Existential; therapy is to help the client or group find new coping skills and learn about their strengths (Ramsey-Wade, 2015).
