In individual sports such as; tennis, golf, wresting, along with many others, these elite athletes are used to competing alone and depending on oneself. “Those in individual sports focus more personal development and judge themselves on the skills presented to others that were given to them while performing individually” (Arslanoğlu, 2016). According to a study done comparing team and individual sports while using PTLID, a method to find distinguish the positive trait like differences in individual and team sports, “those in individual sports the athlete is responsible for the competitive output and they play a higher role in regard to performance” (Laborde, Guillén, & Mosley, 2016). Evidentially, this means that there is more responsibility when it comes to preforming alone and possess greater endurance to succeed (Laborde, Guillén, & Mosley, 2016). “Within team sports the testing of PTLID there were positive psychological outcome where the team is sharing group success” (Laborde, Guillén, & Mosley, 2016). “When an athlete notices their coaches’ behaviors, it can be influenced by psychological variables such as, attitudes, emotions and goals” (Aleksic-Veljkovic, Djurovic, Dimic, Mujanovic, & Zivcic-Markovic, 2016). In Individual sports, the training is “one-on-one” meaning there is more instruction, support and positive feedback from the coach (Aleksic-Veljkovic, et al., 2016). Also, there is a positive environment and interpersonal relationship between the athlete and coach and more focused on individual development and progression (Aleksic-Veljkovic, et al., 2016). Team sports the coaching style is more formal, but flexible because it is the training of a group of athletes (Aleksic-Veljkovic, et al., 2016). There is more pressure on each individual because it is a team effort and typically if one person makes a mistake then everyone will face the consequences.
