There are many individual, couple, and family impacts that child sexual abuse has on the survivor’s life that are complicated and often difficult for the survivor, as well as others, to understand. As a modality, feminist family therapy has made great strides in the treatment of women, and practitioners of feminist family therapy are often sensitive to the unique problems of women as well as cultural and gender influences of survivors. Feminist family therapy provides a means of connecting with the survivor in ways that validate feelings, normalize experiences, challenge dysfunctional patriarchy, discourage the continuation of a lack of power in her life through the fostering of empowerment, and promote the survivor as an advocate for herself and future generations of women. Although other modalities of therapy may have demonstrated effectiveness at treating women survivors of child sexual abuse, few other modalities are as culturally appropriate or tailored to the special needs of women like that of feminist family therapist, which makes it an invaluable model for use when working with this
