CHAMPS is a management plan that teaches students how to behave responsibly in a proactive and positive classroom. The title, CHAMPS, is an acronym for conversation, help, activity, movement, participation, and success. The framework that supports CHAMPS is called the STOIC Framework.
The STOIC Framework consists of five variables that the teacher can apply and use to guide students to be respectful, responsible, and motivated. The five variables of STOIC are structure, teach, observe, interact and correct. Chapter 1 focuses on structure (the S of STOIC) or organizing the classroom to prevent misbehavior. In an effort to create an environment of respect and rapport, Danielson’s 2A, I read that effective teachers spend more time promoting responsible behavior than responding to irresponsible behavior. I will be working toward my goal of 3 positive comments to 1 negative. I will also try to determine why misbehaviors are occurring. When a student misbehaves I will try to draw the least amount of attention to it as possible. One way that I’m thinking of doing that is to practice the correct behavior as a class. I did go over the classroom rules at the beginning of the year and my students signed them as an indicator of acknowledging that the list of rules. I will be using the rules suggested in CHAMPS as I think they sum up what I was hoping to get across with my rules. The new rules will include: Be Responsible, Always Try, Do Your Best, Cooperate with Others, and Treat Everyone Including Yourself with Respect. Chapter 1 talks about how misbehavior happens for a reason. I am hoping that I can eliminate some of those reasons be communicating expectations and explanations of content with the openings and closing I’m going to be implementing this
