Abstract: In order to determine the identity of the compound we performed many experiments with a solution of the compound. These experiments included testing for all of the following ions; ammonium, halide, sulfate, carbonate, nitrate, and acetate. After comparing the results of these experiments we determined that our compound contained a halide. By using the flame test with a Bunsen Burner we also determined that our compound had a red colored flame leading us to our conclusion that the unknown …show more content…
By determining the solubility we can limit the unknown compound into either soluble or poorly soluble, by using the reference material given in LabArchives under the Dealing with Unknown Compounds tab. In order to come up with what compounds are soluble or unsoluble we would have needed to test all the compounds given to us in the reference material (Figure 1.2) but we could just compare the results.
