Flexible working arrangements also have disadvantages that can have adverse affects to the team and the business. Most notably is the unavailability of the employee. Employees that work out of the office can be difficult to get in contact with as they are not always readily available as they would be in the office, this can be problematic for the functionality of the business and team when urgent tasks or meetings are required (Michielsens, Bingham and Clarke 2013). Many senior management and executive members can be difficult to succumb to the changing workforce as it is perceived that flexible work arrangements are secondary to business imperatives (Workforce Challenges and Opportunities for Federal Supervisors). Management play a key role in facilitating the utilisation of flexible work arrangements however, they also have a responsibility to perform and hit targets, it is these business pressures that take priority over flexible work arrangement (Michielsens, Bingham and Clarke 2013). A study conducted recently also found that many mangers would jeopardize their flexible work arrangements schemes due to their fear of being perceived as losing control of the team and potentially losing their managerial status (Michielsens, Bingham and Clarke 2013). Employers can offer flexible work hours, where employees still work their required hours in the office however, start and finish times can be altered to suit commitments outside of work("Types Of Flexible Working Arrangements" 2016). Businesses can also offer accrued leave also known as flex time, employees are still required to enter the office however, they work longer than the standard daily hours and accrue leave which can be taken as either a part of full days leave ("Types Of Flexible Working Arrangements" 2016). Additionally businesses could also offer more annual leave than the standard four weeks and provide staff with five weeks or purchased leave, allowing them to purchase more leave throughout their working career ("Types Of Flexible Working Arrangements"
