For example, the process of teaching on Internet is standard and uniform without pause. So students can not get immediate response from instructors if they have question about the course material. Instead, they have to write down the questions and bring them into the class. If they didn’t do that, they may forget the points they wanted to ask. The article in Tampa Bay Times pointed out some students prefer to have someone talking to them directly so that they can ask question. The other disadvantage is what you said that some students may stop attending lecture in person. The alternative I can think of is to set some activities that students can perform well only if they familiar with the course materials, such as group work or quizzes outside
