Abstract
This research study aims to explore the intersection between agriculture and urbanization in order to provide a green and sustainable source of agriculture, water purification, and insulation to architecture. It scrutinizes the technical characteristics of the folkewall to better understand the environmental, economical, and social implications associated with its implementation in the locality.
The goal of the research is to uncover the numerous benefits of vertical farming technology, more specifically the folkewall, in accordance with architecture; …show more content…
Inert materials: gravels, LECA-pebbles, perlite, or vermiculite are used to fill the hollow parts of stones. The stones are organized following a zig-zag pattern where the water could easily percolate through the wall. Organic pollutants are broken down by the bacterias in the absorptive material. The plants are nourished by the water trickling down the wall. So, as the plant roots into the nutrients and inert material from the grey water, apparently, the water is purified.
By this, both vertical farming and grey water purification is obtained.
Therefore, the capability of the folkewall to purify the grey water is dependent on the amount of solar radiation reaching the plants in the wall.
3.1 Advantages of Folkewall
• Being able to maximize the usage of water irrigation – In a dry climate, the leaves of the plants is able to absorb most of the evaporation. An aspect Gus Nilsson …show more content…
• It is aimed to be attached to an exterior wall. It is consists of two types of stones and is situated to the wall using special corbels.
• A container of purified water is located below the folkewall. The water is for domestic use and/or pumped back for further purification
• The spaces between the blocks are filled with LECA or gravel to create a tapered double sided wall. And for the water to be conveyed in a zigzag pattern, a sheet of plastic is added between the lower layers.
The stones
To make a double sided wall with straight sides, two sizes of stones are needed, the standard and half-sized stone. Otherwise, The wall will have a jagged side. Standard stone
