The scientists can aid them in the field by collecting evidence or in the laboratory by running tests and analyzing the evidence that was found. Forensic scientists deal with cases that can vary from identifying suspects to profiling suspects, but the two most common cases are drug and sex related (“The...Crimes”). In today's society there are many individuals lurking in dark alleys hoping to obtain or use illegal substances. If an individual is suspected of committing this crime, the forensic scientist can begin their work by recovering the substance from the individual (“The...Crimes”). They will then run tests to determine if the substance is marijuana, cocaine or another illegal substance (“The...Crimes”). Sex crimes work in a similar manner, a forensic scientist recovers DNA from a body so that they can find out who was accountable for the sexual assault (“The...Crimes”). Without the help of forensic science, these crimes would go unsolved. Forensic science is not just confined to those two …show more content…
Forensic science can be used to gain the most knowledge about the specifications of a crime. Over the last two decades, forensic science has made many important discoveries and added multiple different procedures (“Forensic Science”). Some of these new discoveries and procedures that can aid forensic science research include the following: DNA coding, toxicology, serology, and ballistics (Jack Claridge). With new technologies a forensic scientist can now understand the impact of a bullet (“The...Crimes”). The scientist can now tell where the menacing shooter was standing when the shots were fired, if the horrified victim was shot at point blank, and how many shots were fired during the attack (“The...Crimes”). Along with using the new technologies, a scientist can scrounge the crime scene for the perpetrator’s fingerprints, shoe prints, or their hair and fibres (“Forensic Science”). After finding the fingerprints, they can run tests and analyze the clues to see exactly who the culprit is, what color they were wearing, and the type of shoes they had on (“Forensic Science”). Due to the work of forensic scientists, people can understand and eventually accept what has happened to them or a loved one. Forensic science is important in obtaining the specific details of what happened at a crime
