When a child grows up, it goes through various speaking phases. At the beginning it starts with " goo goo" and " gaa gaa" and later it is able to say actual words. Frankenstein's monster could possibly learn how to speak the same way a child does. Thanks to the understanding of language acquisition, there is a possibility that the monster could have an actual conversation with anyone. Taking into consideration language acquisition, language development theories, and human interaction, there is a possibility the monster could learn to speak perfectly. The theory of language acquisition is basically that human beings learn to speak and read from other humans. As everyone knows Dr. …show more content…
Language acquisition " is a subconscious process; language acquirers are usually not aware of the facts that they are learning a new language, but are aware only that they are using the language for communication" (Li, 223). The studies of Li, Aike and Brechtje basically state that language acquisition is a learning that isn't really seen as learning. It comes more from an urge to need to know how to communicate that a person learn to understand what words mean. For example, when a child first learns to say "dada mama." They don't know what they are saying or what it means, they just understand that it helps them communicate with their parents. Speaking can be seen as an adaptation that a person goes through in a lifetime in order for them to survive; they have to communicate with others to express their needs. Language acquisition is the phases of language a human goes through. From just repeating what they hear, to being able to understand it, and using it to help them express themselves. It includes other various factors in order to understand it, For example syntax, rhythm and phonemic understanding. These factors are what differs pronunciation throughout an abundance of languages. Comparing an english pronunciation "R" to a spanish pronunciation "R" is a perfect example of hoe phonemic understanding works. Since in spanish languages they tend to roll their R's while other languages …show more content…
When adult learns a second language,it is not needed. It is a decision they are taking and are not being made based on stress. That means since they are not being pressured, they don't find it as important for them to learn it as much as a child finds it as important. The child is the being stressed and it is that what causes them to learn the language. Not the desire or want but the need to communicate and the need to explain what they want. This theory just shows why they learner need to learn a language helps them learn it. Frankenstein could have learned to speak based on stress-dominant theory. The theory just explains why it is possible for any new learner to learn a language. If an adult was placed in an environment where he had to learn to communicate in order to survive, he would learn it. It might not be as easy to learn a new language, but the pressure of needing to learn the new language kicks in and makes it obligatory for him to learn. The stress-dominant theory debunks itself because it seems as if only babies are forced into learning a language when adults could also be put in circumstances where they are pressured to learn a new language. The reason he could not learn was because he was not being stressed into having to learn, speaking on the stress-dominant theory. In order to be stressed to learn, one must have human interaction
