The audience for this interview includes a variety of groups of people. They consist of: the people interested in American history, the people who are enthusiasts of Frederick Jackson Turner, and the average historian. This interview is geared towards exploiting the hidden connotations of Turner’s article.

The purpose of the interview is for me and the audience to gain a better understanding of Turner’s article. It is to question why he believes what he believes. I, as an interviewer, seek to gain a better sense of Turner’s thoughts to clearly convey his message to the audience and myself.

The frontier is like a border that changes the area as it sweeps across. Not only does it change the people’s behavior in the land, but it also alters the way people think. They adapt to new ways that make life different. This frontier line that changes the lives of people is, what I see to be, a method of rapid and effective Americanization. My definition of Americanization is similar to the common definition: to turn a foreign item into an American item. This is best exemplified when the first wave of explorers set foot in America. The frontier started all the way in the East for them, but as they kept moving west, they took the frontier line with them. Soon they would start to forget where they came from and their old way of thinking and start to follow what was natural at that time and place. This is my definition of Americanization and how the frontier line is effective at Americanization. Since the frontier line was the only thing that the primary wave of people knew, it was the only thing what was subconsciously, rapidly, and effectively Americanizing the people. Because the people had to start fresh at an undeveloped land, the frontier was the only thing changing them. I see this as a cyclical process where the people get stripped off of everything and start from scratch. As they come from Europe, they are being deprived of their old methods, and are placed in this new environment, which they have to gain
