At Fort Necessity Washington’s forces were attacked by the French. The French had the upper hand, using the hills and trees over-looking the fort, and the English were unable to make a defense, so Washington accepted the surrender terms. Defeated, they retreated to Virginia, leaving the French in control of the land. The French and Indian War of 1754 to 1763 was a major turning point in the status of relations between England and its North American colonies, bringing about changes and sentiments that led, in part, to the outbreak of the Revolutionary War. The war briefly unified and then distanced the two nations while simultaneously altering America’s relationship with other existing powers, such as the French and the Native Americans. Furthermore, the debt inevitably generated by the conflict and the differing opinions concerning how it should be paid posed a controversial issue that created substantial strife. Land gained proved difficult to regulate and divvy up in a way that would satisfy all colonies, especially under the added pressure of rehabilitating…
Following the French and Indian War ending around 1763, pressure increased between Britain (Mother Country) and her American colonies. Truthfully, I believe the America colonies were justified for waging war and breaking away from Britain because they were trying to defend themselves from unfair Parliament standards (usually tax acts) that were forced on them with and without any say from the people. The only way that Great Britain thought they could regain their money that they lost during the war was to tax the colonies they controlled. It’s -pretty shocking to understand how they wanted to tax them, when it was clearly Great Britain’s problem in the first place.…
In a war that should have ended by the more powerful government of Britain, the Americans came out on top to win the American Revolutionary War. Two of the main reasons for this win was the both Britain and America’s attitudes towards the war. For Britain they had two options for ending the war, either by force or compromise and they chose to do the latter. As with other rebellions, such as the British Irish, they did not use enough force to end the rebellion as was needed.…
The British army met Massachusetts militiamen, who had been warned of the attack, in Lexington and Concord. Though the militiamen won both sides suffered casualties. Word of the victory spread quickly among the colonies and gave the Patriots hope that they had a chance of winning a war against a formidable foe. The militiamen’s next target was Fort Ticonderoga in New York and again the British surrendered to them. George Washington, commander of the Colonial army, also had significant victories in Trenton and Princeton, New Jersey.…

The French and Indian War was caused by the conflict involving the Ohio River Valley, and if it was part of the British empire or the French Empire. The Native Americans of the Ohio River Valley were allied with the French at the time, and fought with them in the war. Throughout the war many of the Native Americans lost their lives, trying to protect their allies. Many of the tribes that were allied with the French had now created an enemy with the British, as well. The Iroquois Confederacy, who were allied with the British even suffered.…
