There are many different forms of radiation. Radiation is the emission of energy as electromagnetic waves or as moving subatomic particles, especially high-energy particles that cause ionization (Google). The first and most common form of radiation are Gamma Rays. Another type of radiation is Ultra-Violet Rays( UV Rays). UV Rays come from radiated gases destroying the Ozone (Carbon 24). Plutonium is a very common form of radiation. Plutonium is in nuclear waste, and can be harmful if large amounts are absorbed in our bodies. Uranium is another waste product. It is less harmful than Plutonium (Carbon 52). Radiation is everywhere.
Nuclear waste is one of the biggest nuclear problems. High Level Waste (HLW) must be properly disposed. To avoid recognizable damage to the environment, HLW needs to be buried deep underground. HLW has many nuclear materials, but …show more content…
Fukushima’s three of eleven reactor units melted due to a 15 meter tsunami, disabling their power supply (World). Since the power was shutoff, the inactive reactor coolers caused the reactors to explode after three days of trying to cool the unit. The actual explosion only caused two direct deaths. Four other plants were shut down but only Fukushima blew up. There were zero deaths so far from radiation but over 1000 deaths from maintaining the heat. Around 100,000 people were evacuated. The main radiation outbreak came through water. Fukushima was the latest and most current nuclear power plant explosion
