Purpose
Creating a more gender-balanced working environment in nursing is important as it creates a workplace of inclusion and offers different aspects of care. Men should be able to express and discuss their role in nursing and how working in a female-dominated environment impacts their capability to work with fellow coworkers and their superiors. They are met with more daunting reactions regarding their profession as a nurse. Men are not well supported in this environment thus prompting them to dropout of nursing school or finding another profession that seems more suitable. Male nurses have a difficult finding their identity as nurses which impact their role tremendously. Nursing has been heavily saturated as more of a role for women, which isn’t fair to male nurses. Male nurses are a marginalized which is uncommon for men to be categorized as such as most men in most workforces are in power positions that don’t compromise their masculinity. The ten male participants provided insight to the obstacles they currently faced or have faced in this profession by providing complete recounts of experiencing the ramifications of being in a female saturated
