There are many stories that describe these terms, but a major one that is worth talking about is “The Yellow Wallpaper”. One quote says, “Then he took me in his arms and called me a blessed little goose, and said he would go down cellar, if I wished, and have it whitewashed into the bargain,” (Schilb 235). Her husband would talk down to her by using these little names like this, making it look like she is a small child. Looking at it while thinking about gender roles, this shows a male talking down to a woman who has mental issues. The main character throughout the story is stuck in this house and no one will listen to her; as she sees a woman that is trapped in the wallpaper, so she writes about her (Schilb 231-244).
