Now at the same time Alex felt guilty for his mom’s condition because he was getting arrested when she had her heart attack. He felt in a way that he was responsible for her comma. So that was a part of the cover up of what happened but he also wanted to make the GDR look good. For example, he had his friend do a fake news report. Saying that East Germany were taking in West Germany refugees because of the bad conditions of West Germany. This was Alex creating a different GDR that were caring to take in the helpless. But it wasn’t how the normal GDR would work, Alex made it to what he had always dreamed the GDR could be. A better place to live and not as much in secret and spying. But Alex was not the only person hiding a huge secret. Christiane had always told her children that there dad left East Germany for another woman. She ended up telling the truth that he was really trying to get away from East Germany and had been writing letters to them the whole time. This was a huge shock to Alex and his sister but they never told her the truth about the Berlin Wall. Alex’s girlfriend ended up telling her near the end of the movie and she went along with into her death. Now let’s look at what was wrong or right with “Goodbye Lenin”.
