First, she was born on April 28, 1926, and during her childhood she lived in Alabama and a small town called Monroeville. Now Monroeville was very similar to Maycomb which was a town in the novel “To Kill a Mockingbird”. The way their similar are because one, both have the same courthouse. Second, neighbors knew everyone well and their business and lastly, both had a very mysterious person that has rumors about themselves that scares local children.
In her family she was by far the youngest out of her siblings. Lee had two older sister, Alice and Louise Lee, and an older brother named Edwin Coleman Lee. Her father, Amasa Coleman Lee, was a lawyer in his town and once defended two black men that were accused of murdering a white store clerk. Here are some examples, when she first started kindergarten she became quick friends with a boy named Truman Capote. So basically Lee based her character Dill on Truman. Jem, Scout’s brother, was based on Edwin Lee because they both were wise, tried to do the right thing, try not to cause trouble, and have a love football.
