What makes the Hispanic values so distinctive? Some might believe there’s no much difference but the differences are obscure. Despite bearing some minor similarities, the differences between American and Hispanic culture are pronounced. Family’s role, religion, household composition, cuisine and wife’s role are key cultural differences between the two.
There is no question about family importance in both cultures; however, Hispanics tend to live by “family is everything.” They take care of each other, live near each other, and socialize together. Mothers are responsible of maintaining the household. Women in the Hispanic families encourage machismo. The husband is always in charge and is always called the “El hombre de la casa” which means “the man of the house”. Most Hispanics tend to cook from scratch. Latin American typical cuisine things are maize based dishes, for example: tortillas, tamales, tacos, and arepas (Wikipedia). Sofrito are always used for a base in all of the Latin America cooking which just usually consists of garlic, onion, peppers and tomatoes cooking in cube sized and sautéed in a small amount of oil. The sofrito is more used for soups. Most of the drinks are also distinctive like horchata and agua de flor de Jamaica that is just hibiscus tea. Horchata is made of morro rice not rice like most think then, cinnamon is added. Most authentic Hispanic restaurants you go to will always have orchata.
