Wilbur and Orville Wright were the first American inventors to invent the airplane. On Dec. 17, 1903, the Wright brothers achieved the first powered, sustained and controlled airplane flight; they surpassed their own milestone two years later when they built, and flew the first fully practical airplane. The Wright brothers showed the world that man could fly (“Wright Brothers”). Their invention of the airplane astounded everyone; poor people, rich people, and especially the middle-class people. First, when airplane was invented it was dangerous, but through various twists and turns, the airplane was able to become a great success in the 1920s, and even gaining the rank of being one of the most important inventions of the 1920s (“Inventions: Airplane”). It makes a trip to the other side of the world and back a realistic vacation within the reach of many ordinary people, instead of something reserved for the ultra wealthy with yachts and no jobs. It makes the travel part of emigration across oceans a short flight, instead of a month's long voyage on a ship. It opened up worldwide markets for perishable goods (“how did the invention”). Before the airplane, it was very difficult for businesses to operate on an international basis because their representatives couldn't conduct important business deals in person(“ how did the airplane”).
