What is the Stone Age?
The stone age was named Stone Age because the people in this time period used stone tools. It has two very like and very different time periods. They are called the Neolithic (new), and Paleolithic (old) eras. They have very diverse rituals and ways of life. Things like the way they access food, the homes they live in, the tools people used, and what they spent their time doing.

In the Old Stone Age people were nomadic1. This is because people were always in search of food, and when they run out of plants and animals in one area, they’d migrate2 to another. The people who hunted animals and gathered berries, vegetables, nuts, and other plants are called hunter-gatherers. Hunter-gatherers migrated in groups of 20-60 people and lived in caves and/or tent-like structures.

Humans in the New Stone Age made sharp blades and arrowheads made of flint or obsidian (right). Neolithic people developed agriculture3 and domestication4. This meant that they could stay in one place and build permanent settlements. Since they could stay in one location, people could now construct sturdier homes. These houses were made of mud, wood, and bone. In the Neolithic Era people didn’t just use the resources in that area, they traded with other communities for goods. Now that people could stay in one place, people took on other occupations. This also gave people more time and with that time, people learned how to produce their own
