The method used to craft the base was subtraction carving wood off the original natural piece of wood in many pieces then constructed together to get the complete base of feet, torso, and head. As a result of this the figure has a uniform base and smooth finish to the object making much easier to attach objects onto the surface of the object. The object then uses construction to add detail and texture to it, first the headpiece is made up of a mix of feathers, yarn, whiskers, and toothpicks, this adds texture to the object rather than being smooth. It anatomy does follow the human with 4 appendages and a head, but it still gives off a strong abstract feeling of being not perfectly human due to it’s strange proportions. The focus of the object is very clearly the crown of materials on top of its head the material spread out like its growing out of the object and is larger than most other elements of the object. Personally the material used to make the object is much of attention grabbing then the object itself its strange with a painted face and nearly perfectly geometric in its craft. After reading the text, the origins we placed into more in perspective of it use and purpose. Now, I know that the Hopi Katsinas had a very significant role in the culture of the natives who made them, sacred as a storytelling object and as an idol to be worshipped and spoken about. They could be treated as artifacts or guardians considering the spear like object in its hand. there is very little doubt it was carved as an important object and piece to keep around considering it's glued onto a pedestal, to rise it up higher than it originally was made to
